Dancers 'hip hop' to The Broadwalk!

Dancers 'hip hop' to The Broadwalk!
With television screens filled with dancing shows such as 'So
You Think You Can Dance,' 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'Got To
Dance' we would be fools not to notice the current craze for dance
based activities. We took this awareness one step further, and
arranged a FREE, 'Get Up Get Dancing' event for
children during the February half term.
We invited Edgware's future John Travolta's, Pussycat Dolls and
Diversity wannabe's to trip the light fantastic and take to the
dance floor during our 'Super Tuesday' activity. Teachers,
pupils, enthusiasts, prima ballerinas and novices were also invited
to attend the day long event.
The event, was held on Tuesday 22 February, offering
children the chance to watch, take part in, and enjoy different
styles of dance. There was 3 dance school taster
sessions during the day from local dance school 'Spotlight
Performing Arts' and afterwards those with a desire to
dance joined in the interactive workshops learning simple
dance moves and exercises. The event was FREE to anyone
wishing to join in, and prizes were awarded to the most
enthusiastic participants.
We are always hearing about the number of over-weight children
in the UK and how children should exercise more. We wanted to offer
local children the chance to take part in, and learn about
different styles of dance, whilst at the same time making them
aware that exercise can be fun. With George Sampson and male
street dance crew Diversity both previous winners of Britains's Got
Talent, it suddenly became cool for boys to dance, and we hope that
this event will be enjoyed by both boys and girls, and parents and
grandparents too.
'We have performed at The Broadwalk Centre before and were
delighted to be invited back, this time not only to perform, but
also to encourage people to join in, learn a new skill, and most
importantly, have fun!' Commented Julie Dolbear, Spotlight
Performing Arts.
