Japan Tsunami Appeal
Thank you for your support in raising £216.18 for the Japan
Tsunami Appeal at The Broadwalk Centre Edgware.
A massive earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale, the
seventh largest recorded in history and the largest to hit Japan
since records began, hit the East coast of the country on Friday 11
March 2011. This triggered a tsunami with waves measuring 10 metre
high leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
The Japanese Red Cross has been working on the ground since the
disaster began, mobilising 85 teams, made up of more than 700
doctors, nurses and support staff, to provide first aid and
healthcare and assess the damage and needs of the communities
affected. To date they have been involved in distributing 75,000
personal hygiene kits and 65,000 blankets to those affected by the
disaster.
More than 500,000 people have been evacuated and are being
housed in temporary centres set up in schools and public buildings
where the Red Cross is distributing thousands of blankets.
The funds you have help raise for this appeal will be used
towards the Japanese Red Cross response to the disaster, including
transport and the essential provision of aid.
